A Smithsonian Affilitate
A visit to the Southern Museum is like stepping back in time. Located in the heart of the quaint historical town of Kennesaw, Ga, they have three permanent collections, including the Civil War's famous General locomotive. You will follow in the footsteps of the Confederate defenders as they work to re-capture their locomotive from the band of Union Civil War spies!
There is also an interactive presentation of the train building process featuring the Glover Machine Works. The Glover family was very influential in the industrialization of the South after the War ended - they quickly became on of the premier builders of steam locomotives in the South. The re-creation of the factory and assembly line that was located in Marietta, Georgia is not to be missed.
A special gallery features traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution as well as other sources. Visit often, as they change every few months! Be sure to check the website often to see what new events and happenings are on the schedule!
